A religion is the system of belief that a colony officially supports. This can vary from colony to colony, but once a religion has been declared, it can only be changed under an autocratic government.
Religions are created and supported by Religious Empires. Different theisms provide different benefits for the believers and empire. Members of the empire are not permitted to follow any other religion.
Monotheism
The believe in a single god, who usually provides strict advise communicated through their disciples. Followers of this religion go through life equipped with a commandment for every situation.Who needs prisons when eternal damnation is on the table? As such, colonies following this religion will find it far easier to keep their people in check, their police forces display a much higher efficiency. This is offset by their recreation centers offering satisfying reassurance how each individual's path is guided by God.
As there is only one god, there is only one holy city, the established capital of the empire's founder, and people flock to it.
Pantheism
God is everywhere and in everything, pantheists don't have a concept of specific deities. Their religious interest in all matter and energy often makes them very talented researchers, discovering things others fail to see.The empire supporting a pantheism has little to gain from its followers, beyond selling helpful pamphlets, from which they earn a little extra money. Their followers, however depend on this wisdom to further their understanding of the universe. The more influential the empire, the more enlightened its believers.
Polytheism
A god for everything, isn't that wonderful? No matter who you are, there will always be a higher being who shares and guards your interests.Always having a god to cite or blame makes these societies happy places. Curiously, this also provides retail with an opportunity to sell an unlimited selection of charms, sacrificial animals, and tin foil hats of all shapes and sizes.
Every member of the religion's empire will be able to showcase their favorite god, and those who share the love for their choice will want to live in cities molded to their specific interests.
