A transport mission can be used if you have freighters or other ships with cargo capacity in your fleet. This mission type will automatically unload all materials in the fleet at the selected colony. You can use this to send your allies resources, as you can only directly transfer cargo at colonies you own.

A transport mission will also disembark colonists from a colonizer.
